Betraying the Martyrs
Betraying the Martyrs is a French Christian deathcore band from Paris, France.
The band's former members are Eddie Czaicki (vocals), and Antoine Salin (Drums).
Before joining Betraying the Martyrs, Czaicki played in the French metalcore band, Darkness Dynamite, Guillet was the lead vocalist and keyboardist in the post-hardcore band, The Beverly Secret, Vigier and d'Angelo were in the metalcore band, Black Curtains, and Hauser was in the math metal band, Beyond The Dust.
On November 18, 2009, Betraying the Martyrs released their debut EP The Hurt, The Divine, The Light, a self-produced recording funded entirely by the band and mixed by Stephane Buriez. The EP sold more than 2,000 copies in France alone.[1] Their first European tour, "The Survivors Tour" (2010), involved the band playing in support of Whitechapel, Dark Funeral, Darkness Dynamite, A Skylit Drive, Adept, Despised Icon, Dance Gavin Dance, While She Sleeps and Shadows Chasing Ghosts. The band met current vocalist, British native Aaron Matts, during this tour, and he replaced Czaicki shortly thereafter (Czaicki was unable to continue with the band due to an art career that requires him to travel worldwide). They released a video "Betraying The Idol" with a fake casting, explaining Aaron's arrival and Eddie's departure.
Between April and May 2011, the group completed a second European tour, the “Breathe In Life Tour", for the promotion of their debut album. The tour included performances in Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom (UK). Support on the "Breathe In Life Tour" was provided by Russian deathcore band, My Autumn, and Despite My Deepest Fear. Breathe In Life was warmly received by reviewers throughout Europe and notable received higher acclaim when compared to other groups in their genre.[4][5][6][7]
The famous French Guitarist Mag magazine named the album in the TOP 5 album of 2011 (second just behind Megadeth) and also named the band best newcomer of the year in the HARD METAL section [8] Gibson named them in the ten metal bands to check summer 2012 [9] along with bands like Asking Alexandria or Five Finger Death Punch
In May 2012, Antoine quit the band and was replaced by Russian drummer Mark Mironov from the deathcore band My Autumn.[10]

Current status
Betraying the Martyrs toured Europe in early 2012 on the famous "Bonecrusher Tour", with Carnifex, Within The Ruins, Molotov Solution and Beneath The Massacre.[11] As of April 2012, the band is touring the US, on the "Sumerianos Tour", alongside Upon A Burning Body and I The Breather, in addition to numerous other support acts.[12] Then followed a European tour, back to back, supporting Veil of Maya on the "European Eclipse 2012" tour, alongside Vildhjarta, Structures and Volumes.[13] For the remainder of 2012, the band has been included on the line-up for "The All Stars Tour 2012" (northern summer) alongside Suicide Silence, Unearth, Attila and Winds of Plague;[14] and on the Mayhem Festival 2012 with Slipknot, Slayer, Anthrax[15] and many others. They also just opened the mainstage at the Hellfest 2012 [16] and replaced Winds Of Plague at Graspop Metal Meeting 2012 [17]
Musical style
The band's style is a mixture of different aspects from multiple sub-genres of extreme metal. The band takes the breakdowns, blast beats, and low growls that are main parts in deathcore. They then add clean vocals, choruses, and programming that are key parts in metalcore and post-hardcore bands. On top of these, they also blend in the technical riffs that exist in technical death metal and the key changes and odd time signatures that exist in progressive metal bands. A lot of the synth is also used to mimic the ochestra elements that reside in symphonic death metal. The deathcore elements in the music is the most prevalent of them all.

Apologies Are for the Weak and Neff's return (2009-2010)
After just beginning their 2009 tour with Carnifex, Impending Doom, and Conducting from the Grave, bassist Gillepsie made the decision to leave Miss May I. According to Gillespie, touring just "wasn't for [him]", and he knew that with the debut album being put out, touring was going to be essential.[citation needed] After his departure, original bassist, Neff re-joined the band after he had recorded bass for Rose Funeral's album The Resting Sonata.
The music video for "Forgive and Forget" (the first single from the album) initially premiered on Headbangers Ball on November 21, 2009.[3] On April 5, 2010, it was announced that the band will be embarking on the Back to the Roots tour along with The Devil Wears Prada and Your Demise. The tour began on June 28, 2010 and ended on August 29, 2010 going all across the United States.
Monument (2010-2011)
According to the website of producer Joey Sturgis' Foundation Studios, Miss May I had booked studio time in May 2010 to ostensibly record the follow-up to their debut album. According to Ryan Neffs Twitter, the new album would be sometime released in August along with a new music video.
On June 11, 2010, Levi Benton announced that there would be a track on the new album called "Colossal" and that the album would be called Monument and confirmed its release to be on August 17th of that year. The artwork for it was also later revealed, featuring the iconic MMI Lion from the cover of the band's debut. On September 2nd, 2010, Miss May I released their music video for "Relentless Chaos" Directed by Thunder Down Country. In December 2010, Miss May I then confirmed plans to be appear on Warped Tour 2011.
The band appeared on the We Came as Romans Merchnow.com + Arkaik Clothing "I'm Alive" Tour (September - October, 2011) with Close To Home, Of Mice & Men, and Texas in July.[4] Following the "I'm Alive" Tour, the band co-headlined the 'No Guts No Glory' tour with Pierce the Veil, Woe, Is Me, and Letlive. On December 31st, 2011 Miss May I headlined for a hometown show for New Year's Eve at the venue "The Attic" in Kettering, Ohio. Local acts such as: Stars Like Street Lights, Hail to the King, The Initiative, The Pen and the Pendulum, and Ignite the Empires opened up for them.
At Heart (2012-present)
After finishing up touring for 2011, Miss May I entered the studio throughout the beginning of 2012 to work on a new album set for release sometime during the summer. On March 8th, 2012, the band announced that they had completed work on their new album titled At Heart and were set to release the album on May 29th 2012.[5]
To make last minute changes (as said in an interview by Levi Benton), the band bumped back the release, to the now set date of June 12th, 2012.[6]
The band soon set out on tour with Whitechapel, After the Burial, The Plot in You, and Structures throughout March 2012, followed by a European tour with Parkway Drive, The Ghost Inside and Confession through April. Once again the band set out to tour with Whitechapel, The Ghost Inside, Within the Ruins and The Plot in You in the US during May 2012.[7] Miss May I released (Hey Mister) on May 3rd on Rise Record's YouTube page. The band played on Warped Tour from June to August, and will be headlining the AP Tour in the fall.
Religious views
In an interview with Dayton Daily News writer Madeline Bush,[8] when asked what they thought their music conveyed, Benton replied:
“ | "Well, we have been asked a lot if we are a Christian band due to our lyrics. And the answer to that is no, but some of us are Christians and others are not. But myself as a Christian, I try and not put the wrong negative message out in our lyrics. Most of what we stand for is just a band that plays for the crowd to be happy, and to love what we are doing as much as we do." | ” |

A Day to Remember
A Day to Remember is an American rock band from Ocala,
Florida. Founded in 2003 by guitarist Tom Denney and drummer Bobby
Scruggs, the band has released four studio albums, nine singles and
eight music videos. They are mainly known for their unusual amalgamation
of metalcore and pop punk as a musical style. The band consists of vocalist Jeremy McKinnon,
rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Neil Westfall, bassist Josh
Woodard, percussion and drummer Alex Shelnutt and lead guitarist Kevin
Skaff.
After all playing in different groups in the Ocala
music scene, singer Jeremy McKinnon, guitarists Neil Westfall and Tom
Denney, bassist Josh Woodard, and drummer Bobby Scruggs came together in
2003. Soon after, the band embarked on a "DIY" tour, playing well over
200 shows, making a name for themselves. They were signed to Indianola Records, from which they recorded their debut full-length debut album, titled And Their Name Was Treason
in May 2005. The album sold 8,690 copies but the band felt that bigger
and better things were to come. "A friend of mine said he had the AIM
screenname of someone at Victory Records,”
Woodard said. "I didn’t believe him, but I still started communicating
with the guy. We IM’ed back and forth for about six months, and it
happened that we were playing with the band On the Last Day
in a town outside of Chicago—and this guy was going to be there filming
it. It was our first time we ever played in Illinois, yet the 50–60
kids there were singing along to our tunes like they’d been fans all
their lives."
The album, titled For Those Who Have Heart was released in January 2007 on Victory Records and peaked at No. 17 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart and No. 43 on the Top Independent Albums chart. On September 24, 2007, they put a cover of Kelly Clarkson's hit single, "Since U Been Gone" on their MySpace. This was later featured on the re-release of For Those Who Have Heart, released in February 2008.
A Day to Remember toured the United Kingdom for the first time ever in January 2008, and were later nominated for "Best International Newcomer" at the 2008 Kerrang! Awards,[1] but lost to Black Tide.[2] Afterwards, the band had a lengthy tour opening for Silverstein[3] along with The Devil Wears Prada, and Protest the Hero (who dropped off the tour and were replaced by A Static Lullaby). They then played The Bamboozle Left on April 6 at the Verizon Amphitheater in Irvine, California, one of the two days at the 2008 Bamboozle Festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 3 and 4, as well as the Download Festival in June, and the 2008 Vans Warped Tour. Before playing the Download Festival, they toured the UK with The Devil Wears Prada and Alesana on the Road To Download Tour. In mid 2008, the band played all the U.S. dates of the "Easycore Tour" along with New Found Glory, Four Year Strong, Crime in Stereo and International Superheroes of Hardcore.
A Day to Remember toured the United States from March to May 2009 with The Devil Wears Prada, Sky Eats Airplane and Emarosa. Prior to the tour, Tom Denney broke his wrist; filling in for him was Kevin Skaff formerly of Four Letter Lie. They also toured the UK with For the Fallen Dreams and Azriel. They also toured as part of the Warped Tour 2009, played at the Download Festival 2009 and toured Asia, Australia and New Zealand in August and September. The band also contributed a track to Punk Goes Pop 2 record from Fearless Records, covering The Fray's "Over My Head (Cable Car)".
On June 2, 2009, the band announced that Tom Denney had left the band. The band stated that Denney left because he wants to focus on his marriage, a family, and his recording studio. Denney has been noted for recording such bands as The Starlight Getaway, Dang! We're on Fire, We Are Defiance as well as a number of solo acts. Regardless of his departure from the band, he will still remain a part of the writing process of new material. His replacement is Kevin Skaff, formerly of Four Letter Lie.
"The Downfall of Us All" was released as downloadable content for the Rock Band series of video games, whilst "NJ Legion Iced Tea" was released as a download for Guitar Hero World Tour on July 9, 2009.
A Day to Remember were set to play Reading & Leeds Festival in 2009 but pulled out due to Neil Westfall having to have surgery.[5] They did their first headlining tour called The Pulling Your Pud Tour, along with Parkway Drive, In Fear and Faith, and I See Stars starting in September 2009. The band then supported Bring Me the Horizon, with guest August Burns Red, on their tour of the UK and Europe in October–November 2009.
On December 16, 2009, A Day to Remember released a holiday-oriented song as a single entitled "Right Where You Want Me to Be". A video was also made for the song and released through SantaMosh.com.
According to Victory Records, it was claimed that the band will set to release their fourth studio album titled "What Separates Me from You" on October 26, 2010.[7] The album was recorded in Ocala, Florida, with producer Chad Gilbert who has also produced Homesick, with the tracking being done on July 23, 2010.[8]
On September 20, 2010, A Day to Remember announced in a live video through Victory Records' website the name of their new album being What Separates Me from You. They also then revealed the cover art for the album. The album was delayed a few weeks for release until November 16, 2010.[9] On November 16, 2010, it was announced that A Day to Remember will play the 2011 edition of the Vans Warped Tour.[10][11] Prior to Vans Warped Tour 2011, A Day to Remember headlined the "Game Changers Tour" (March – April 2011) with support from Bring Me The Horizon, Pierce The Veil, and We Came as Romans.[12]
On January 6, 2011, the band showcased the official music video for the first single taken from the album, "All I Want" through an MTV premiere. The music video features several musicians from many different musical groups such as A Day to Remember's former lead guitarist Tom Denney, as well as Vic Fuentes, Pete Wentz, Dallas Taylor, Tim Lambesis and others.[13] On January 11, 2011, the band made their national TV debut, while performing the songs "All I Want" and "Better Off This Way" on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.[14] On June 7, 2011, the band released the music video for the second single off the album – "All Signs Point to Lauderdale".[15]
On December 15, 2011, it was announced that the band have plans of pressing charges against Victory due to breach of contract. Legal action was reportedly initiated on May 31 of that year, in which the band claims that Victory owes them over $75,000 in royalties.[16] Victory Records has said, on their behalf, that the lawsuit is actually about the band's refusal to fulfill their 5 album contractual commitment to Victory and their newfound desire to move to a major label, and that Victory Records did not seek attention with this lawsuit trying to find middle ground with the band. The lawsuit came soon after A Day to Remember has started working with new management, and it is speculated that management has pressured the band to go to court.[17]
On December 30, 2011, in an interview with an exclusive Kerrang! podcast, Jeremy has said that the band's previous lead guitarist Tom Denney would set to provide vocals on their upcoming new record. "As for if he would be screaming, chumming tunes, whistling or rapping on the track, we have not decided yet. It's totally a game changer for Tom to be in this set."
Beginning in January 2012, the band went on tour supporting Rise Against throughout the US,[18] with the tour spreading over two legs and the band performing in Australia and New Zealand between tour two parts.
On February 27, 2012, the band released "2nd Sucks" as the fourth single off What Separates Me from You, along with a music video, featuring their ex-guitarist Tom Denney.
On December 3, 2012, the band released a countdown on their website, counting down to December 21st but not revealing what it was counting down to. When the countdown reached zero, a new single was released titled "Violence (Enough Is Enough)",[20] new merchandise was added to their online store, and dates for a new tour were announced.

Musical style
A Day to Remember have been described by critics as metalcore,[21][22] pop punk,[21][23] post-hardcore,[23][24] and emo-pop.[25][24] They have been described as a fusion of "emo, hardcore, and metal".[26] A Day to Remember's song structures typically follow a metalcore verses and blends into a more pop punk style chorus. Fans and critics alike have described this blend as "pop-mosh," "popcore", and, more recently, "easycore".[26] When asked in an interview with AbsolutePunk about their sound, Jeremy McKinnon stated:
“ | It's weird. See, it's funny because we have been doing this for so long. When we started, this shit was not cool. Everyone told us mixing the two genres wouldn't work. Hell, a lot of people still feel that way. We've just always played what we wanted to hear, and to be honest people weren't doing it back then. We loved pop punk, we loved hardcore bands, and we couldn't decide what to be. So we said fuck it. Let's do them both. | ” |
